Search Engine Friendly Website Parameters
While designing a website, it is important to keep in mind such techniques are used which are search engine friendly so that the website can be easily indexed by search engines and also doesn’t pose any roadblocks to search engine crawlers, while at the same time, appealing to human visitors.
From the Search Engine point of view, here are a few suggestions you may want to consider When linking to the homepage from the internal web pages, use the absolute url instead of the default.
E.g.: Link to http://www.willshall.com/ instead of http://www.willshall.com/index.php from internal web pages to the homepage.
Frames
A big No to frames. Search engines have a major problem indexing framed sites. Although a web page may be picked up a search engine, it can't read the content in frames and hence your website's ranking potential is harmed.
Image maps
Search engines can't decipher image maps. By definition, Image map refers a graphic used for multiple-navigation on a web page.
Navigation
Links always have navigation links available in text. If you have rollovers or image links, you can place text navigation bar at the bottom of the page. This is very important as search engines find it easier to detect text links. Not only this, text links allow capitalizing on the anchor text, which holds weight age in search engine optimization.
Graphic Usage
Avoid expressing most of your content or in graphics, you may loose your valuable keywords indexing since search engines cannot read graphics. Any text written using graphics has very little optimization value if optimized alt and title attributes are used unless it goes unread by a search engine.
Website Content
Text on the home page split into headlines and body text. Content is meat for search engines. Having 250 to 500 words of text within the body of the page with inclusion of important keywords and information helps in boosting search engine rakings and visibility.
Sitemap
The site must have a "sitemap" which links to all the important sections and individual pages of the site. A 'site map' is also called 'spider food' which is great starting point for search engines to start indexing your website pages. Adding xml website will be an additional advantage. By using an XML sitemap let search engine know that how frequently your website changed, and to crawl your website accordingly. You can change the frequency levels in your sitemap which indicates how frequently your website content is going to change, this will regulate the frequency of search engine bots visits.
